Notes for William JURGENS

Arrived in America in 1904 from southern Germany, presumably to find an uncle (don't know if paternal or maternal) in St. Louis. Never made it to St. Louis, but settled in Brooklyn. Was part owner of a restaurant in 1904, and ran the restaurant for many years.
Eventually the restaurant closed, and William went back to his apprenticeship skills of butchering, working for two big meat companies.
In 1914 he opened his own butcher shop in Brooklyn. They lived in the third story above the shop (William, Marie, Bill Jr., and later Helen).
Shop address: 828 Marcy Avenue, Brooklyn, NY
In 1941, they finally bought land and built a house on Long Island.
Residence at time of death: 1509 Imperial Avenue, New Hyde Park, Long Island, NY
