I made two sideless surcotes and matching filet (one filet, double-sided,
one side each of the two fabrics) for court at Pennsic 32. The colors of
the Kingdom of Atlantia are mainly blue and white, so it seemed fitting to
wear the navy fleur de lis to Atlantian Court. I also wore it to the next
Atlantian Coronation, where it won a prize for best use of fleur de lis!
The second sideless is made of a gold/white brocade that would make a
gorgeous wedding gown. Under each surcote is a linen tunic, of white and
peach linen, respectively. I wore the linen alone during the day, and then
put on the surcoats and headgear for court in the evening. One day I'll make
proper linen fitted cotehardies to wear under the sideless surcotes, but they
are much more challenging to make than the sideless surcotes!
