I've made myself a gold gown out of the fabric below.
Being the big fan of the movie Ever After that I am, the plan
for the gold gown is to wear it under a velvet overdress, something like view B
(bottom right) in Simplicity pattern 8735. The design also resembles some of the gowns in the painting called
The Betrothal from the Ferrarese School, 1470.
Hopefully I will be able to mix in some of the gold based
tapestry fabric into a velvet overdress or bodice to go with the gold gown as well.
Another thought for the three fabrics is this awesome gown by Lynn McMasters. It is based off a picture from "Chronicle of Western Fashion" by John Peacock. I have already used the gray velvet shown below to make a houpelande. The same Italian Renaissance gown idea above applies to the gray velvet and pink brocade pictured below. I haven't decided whether to mix the two fabrics into one overdress or make an overdress of the pink and an over-overdress with the gray. The pink/gray trim would be used on the gray fabric. I also bought some dark purple brocade and black cotton velvet from which to make more Italian Renaissance gowns. |
